| The Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSKG) is the oldest art museum in Belgium. It was created in 1798. Since May 2007 the MSKG has recovered its original splendour. For the first time since 1950 the visitors can discover its entire collection, spread over forty rooms. The collection gives a rich image of Flemish art from the Middle Ages to the first half of the 20th century, mainly in the context of Ghent. Among the old masterpieces are two works by Hieronymus Bosch. The main body of the collection however is a large number of works from the 19th and 20th centuries. Via an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings, visitors are introduced to the 19th-century art movements of Realism, Romanticism, Impressionism, Symbolism and Expressionism, and to the Surrealism of the 20th century. | Het Museum voor Schone Kunsten Gent werd in 1798 opgericht en is één van de oudste musea van het land. Uit de rijke verzameling schilderijen, beelden, wandtapijten, tekeningen en grafiek wordt permanent een selectie van 400 à 450 werken tentoongesteld. De collectie geeft een gevarieerd beeld van de Vlaamse kunst van de Middeleeuwen tot en met de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw. Tot de topwerken van de oude kunst horen twee meesterwerken van Jheronymus Bosch. Het zwaartepunt ligt echter bij de kunstwerken van de 19de en de 20ste eeuw. Via een uitgebreide verzameling schilderijen, beelden en tekeningen kan je kennismaken met de 19de eeuwse kunststromingen gaande van het realisme en de romantiek, het impressionisme en het symbolisme, tot het expressionisme en het surrealisme van de 20ste eeuw.
