Mu.ZEE sloot in januari 2025 voor drie jaar de deuren van het gekende hoofdgebouw in de Oostendse Romestraat in het kader van een grondige renovatie. Tijdens die periode blijft Mu.ZEE actief in Oostende en neemt ze haar intrek in de statige Venetiaanse Gaanderijen, ontworpen door Henri Maquet en gebouwd tussen 1900 en 1903. Hier toont Mu.ZEE het beste van zichzelf, dat wil zeggen: tot de verbeelding sprekende kunst in België van 1880 tot morgen. Op de Oostendse dijk met uitzicht op zee, zijn delen van de Mu.ZEE-collectie te zien in drie zones. De galerie biedt ruimte voor vier opeenvolgende thematische tentoonstellingen, waarvan ‘Het is zondag op zee!’ de eerste is. In de grote zaal, naast de galerie, ligt de focus telkens op één werk, kunstenaar, archief of ensemble. Achteraan, tot slot, biedt een actief depot inkijk achter de schermen van een museale werking en een boeiende collectie. In een permanente proefopstelling onderzoekt en toont Mu.ZEE bovendien drie jaar lang de invloed van licht op diverse materialen en denkt het op die manier na over de presentaties na de heropening van Mu.ZEE in 2028. Voor dit tijdelijk onderkomen werd een gloednieuwe tentoonstellingsscenografie ontworpen door Theo De Meyer, Laura Muyldermans en Yuichiro Onuma. @nl |

In January 2025, Mu.ZEE closed the doors of its well-known main building in Romestraat in Ostend for three years for a thorough renovation. During this period, Mu.ZEE will remain active in Ostend and will move into the stately Venetian Galleries, designed by Henri Maquet and built between 1900 and 1903. Here, Mu.ZEE will showcase the best of itself, i.e. evocative art in Belgium from 1880 to tomorrow. Parts of the Mu.ZEE collection can be viewed in three areas on the Ostend seafront, overlooking the sea. The gallery offers space for four consecutive thematic exhibitions, the first of which is “It's Sunday at the seaside!”. In the large hall next to the gallery, the focus is always on a single work, artist, archive or ensemble. Finally, at the rear, an active depot offers a glimpse behind the scenes of a museum's operations and a fascinating collection. In a permanent trial setup, Mu.ZEE is also researching and displaying the influence of light on various materials for three years, reflecting on the presentations after the reopening of Mu.ZEE in 2028.
