| Op 10km van Brussel, in het centrum van Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, ligt de Rozentuin van Coloma. Deze 2,2 hectare grote tuin toont de roos in al haar facetten, met zowel inheemse wilde rozen als gecultiveerde rozen uit verre landen. Je vindt er compleet nieuwe rozenvariëteiten en rozen uit de Middeleeuwen. Meer dan 3000 rozenvariëteiten uit 26 landen maken samen met het kasteel en het park van Coloma een heerlijke plaats om te vertoeven. De rozentuin is open van 15 mei tot 30 september van 10 tot 20u en in oktober van 10 tot 19u. Maandag is de sluitingsdag. De toegang is vrij en gratis. Bezoeken doe je best van juni tot begin oktober. Gratis toegang voor iedereen. | |
| The rose garden at Coloma Castle is world famous: 2.2ha covered with no less than 3,000 rose varieties from 25 countries, or 300,000 flowers distributed over thematic gardens. You will find primitive roses and descendants of the ancient rose, next to the most refined forms of green high-tech. In Coloma you can admire rose specimens from the Flemish allotment gardens and from the most remote corners of the world. As a souvenir of the barons Roose, which used to hold sway over the castle domain, white and red roses were planted in such a manner that they represent the red-white coat of arms of the Roose barony, which is also the shield of the town of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. The Importance attached to roses through the centuries can be read on different signs. In our countries people thought that roses could avert the plague and the first rosary was literal: it consisted of threaded dried rose hips.There is also a Rose Museum in the garden. |
