The beautiful beguinage of Turnhout is an oasis of peace in the middle of the city. The site has rightly been declared UNESCO World Heritage. In the Beguinage Museum, time seems to have stood still. The museum offers a glimpse into the vanished world of the beguines, with everyday and art objects that belonged to them. Beguines did not take a vow of poverty and set their own rules of life. Exceptional women! The beautiful baroque Beguinage Church and the Chapel of the Holy Countenance are also worth a visit. They are freely accessible during the museum’s opening hours. @en |

Het prachtige begijnhof van Turnhout is een oase van rust midden in de stad. De site is zeer terecht uitgeroepen tot UNESCO-Werelderfgoed. In het Begijnhofmuseum lijkt de tijd te hebben stil gestaan. Het museum laat je meekijken naar de verdwenen leefwereld van de begijnen, met gebruiks- en kunstvoorwerpen die aan hen toebehoorden. Begijnen legden niet de gelofte van armoede en ze bepaalden zelf hun leefregels. Uitzonderlijke dames! Ook de prachtige barokke Begijnhofkerk en de Kapel van het Heilig Aanschijn zijn een bezoek waard. Ze zijn gratis toegankelijk tijdens de openingsuren van het museum. @nl |
