| Het Museum voor Moderne Kunst omvat de periode in de kunst vanaf de geboorte van Jacques-Louis David (Parijs 1748) tot de kunst van onze tijd. De collecties bestaan uit schilderijen, beelden en tekeningen. Het schilderij “De dood van Marat” van David uit 1793 vormt het scharnierwerk tussen Oude Kunst en Moderne Kunst. Slechts enkele musea in de wereld bieden de mogelijkheid om de ontwikkelingen in de kunst van de laatste 6 eeuwen in één instelling te kunnen bekijken. Belgische grootmeesters zijn o.a. Delvaux en Magritte, de Vlaamse expressionisten met o.a. Permeke, Cobra met Dotremont, Appel en Alechinsky, meesters uit de 20ste eeuw met o.a. Chagall, Dali en Miro. Wegens infrastructuurwerken is enkel een selectie kunstwerken uit de verzamelingen 19de- en 20ste -eeuwse kunst tentoongesteld op de verdiepingen -5 tot -8 in de ondergrondse zalen die in 1984 de deuren openden. Deze zijn geschikt rond een lichtput, die het geheel een eigen identiteit geeft. | |
| This museum is dedicated to the period from the birth of Jacques-Louis David in 1748 to the 20th century. The collection comprises sculptures, paintings and drawings. It represents the logical continuation of the artistic evolution which starts in the Museum of Ancient Art. This particularity of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium contributes to their originality. The collections are exhibited in 2 buildings and on different levels: the collections from the 19th century are exhibited in the neoclassical building overlooking the place Royale (entrance to the Museum of Modern Art): Belgian great masters include Delvaux and Magritte, Flemish expressionists as Permeke, Cobra with Dotremont, Appel and Alechinsky. Those of the 20th century are grouped together in the rooms which were opened in 1984, in part underground, where you meet eye to eye with Chagall, Dali, Miro and others, all gathered around a light shaft typical of the museum's very special identity. |
