| De Smakverzameling geeft een beeld van de ontwikkelingen in de internationale kunst van 1945 tot heden en plaatst de Belgische kunst binnen dit ruimere spectrum. De collectie streeft niet naar volledigheid of consensus, maar kiest voor specifieke werken die in eerste instantie afwijkend lijken maar later vaak uitgroeien tot referenties. Met de heterogene opstelling van de werken zoekt men zeer bewust naar spanningsvelden en conflicten. De tijdelijke tentoonstellingen worden ook gebruikt als referentie waartegen de eigen collectie zich afzet. De permanente verzameling, waarvan altijd een deel tentoongesteld, bestaat in ± 2000 werken uit alle toonaangevende kunststromingen als Cobra, Pop Art, Minimal Art, Conceptuele Kunst en Arte Povera. De topwerken van internationaal geroemde artiesten ontbreken niet. Joseph Beys, David Hammons, Thomas Schütte, Juan Muñoz, Panamarenko, Marcel Broodthaers, Thierry De Cordier en Luc Tuymans staan er naast de minder bekende jonge kunstenaars van vandaag. | |
| The SMAK collection gives an idea of the developments in international art from 1945 to present and positions Belgian art within this broader perspective. The collection does not aim for completeness or consensus, but opts for specific works that seem to be deviating at first but become references later on. The set-up is heterogeneous and in this way consciously searching for areas of tension and conflicts. In addition, temporary exhibitions are used as a reference to single out the own, in-house collection. Therefore alternating parts of the permanent collection can be exhibited, in total it contains about 2000 works from all leading artistic movements such as Cobra, Pop Art, Minimal Art, Conceptual Art and Arte Povera. Masterpieces by international artists are also on display: Joseph Beys, David Hammons, Thomas Schütte, Juan Muñoz, Panamarenko, Marcel Broodthaers, Thierry De Cordier and Luc Tuymans next to less famous young artists. |
