| Een ongewoon symbool van België, dit kleine bronzen beeldje van een plassend jongetje fascineert iedere bezoeker. Vlakbij de Grote Markt tref je hier vaak een groep toeristen aan die foto’s maken van het werk dat Hiëronymus Duquesnoy de Oude in 1618 maakte. Het legendarische beeldje is slechts 61 cm hoog. Het verhaal achter het beeldje van een jongetje dat in de fontein plast, is niet bekend. De Vrienden van de Orde van Manneken-Pis hebben er een traditie van gemaakt om hem gedurende het hele jaar steeds in een ander kostuum te steken. | |
| A peculiar symbol of Belgium, this small bronze statue of a small boy peeing has become a point of fascination for any visitor. Near the Grand Place, one can often spy a crowd of tourists taking photos of Hiëronymus Duquesnoy the Elder’s 1618 work. The stuff of legend standing only 61cm high, the true story of why there’s a statue of a boy urinating into the fountain is unknown. A tradition has been created by the Friends of Manneken-pis who dress him in hundreds of costumes over the course of the year. |
