| De sierlijke Sint-Walburgakerk is een van de vele bouwkundige pareltjes van Veurne. Ze werd wellicht gebouwd in de 9de eeuw en herbouwd in de 13de en 14de eeuw. Begin 20ste eeuw werden de dwarsbeuk en het schip in neogotische stijl voltooid. Het vroeg-gotische koor (13de eeuw) met kooromgang en straalkapellen bleef echter behouden. De gotische westertoren (14de eeuw) bleef onvoltooid. Het kerkinterieur bevat een koorgestoelte in Vlaamse renaissancestijl (1596), een 18de-eeuwse preekstoel en talrijke 16e - tot 18e-eeuwse kunstwerken. | |
| The ornate Saint Walburga Church is one of Veurne’s many architectural gems. The early Gothic choir (13th century) with choir ambulatory and apse chapels has been preserved. The Gothic west tower (14th century) remained unfinished. The church interior has choir stalls in Flemish Renaissance style (1596), an 18th-century pulpit, and numerous artworks from the 16th-18th centuries. |
