| The Gentbrugge Marshes is one of the four green centres that is being created in Ghent. Green centres are large-scale parkland and nature areas. The Gentbrugge Marshes spread out over approximately 240 hectares. The area is located within the wide bend of the Scheldt river and the Gentbrugge urban development area. In close vicinity to the urban development area, the focus is on recreation, games and sport. In the area closer to the Scheldt, the main emphasis is on nature development, with marshes, flowering meadows and lots of new woodland. You can enjoy a wheelchair and stroller-friendly walk here. Benches provide sufficient resting places. In conjunction with the Ghent-based start-up company OJOO, the city of Ghent has developed a free app which you can use to explore the Gentbrugge Marshes on your own. | De Gentbrugse Meersen is één van de vier groenpolen die in Gent worden ingericht. Groenpolen zijn grote park- en natuurgebieden. De Gentbrugse Meersen is ongeveer 240 hectare groot. Het gebied ligt binnen de brede bocht van de Schelde en de bebouwing van Gentbrugge. Dicht bij de bebouwing ligt de klemtoon op recreatie, sport en spel. Dichter bij de Schelde voert de natuur de boventoon met nieuwe bossen, moerraszones en bloemenrijke graslanden. Je kan er onder andere genieten van een rolstoel- en buggyvriendelijke wandeling. De aanwezige bankjes bieden ook voldoende rustpunten onderweg. De stad Gent ontwikkelde samen met de Gentse start-up OJOO tevens een gratis app waarmee je de Gentbrugse Meersen op eigen houtje kan verkennen. Deze is te downloaden op de site van Stad Gent. |
