| The Lange Max Museum is a must-see place for those interested in World War 1 and is situated on the German side of the Western Front. The farmyard is the centre of this cultural location. A long lane takes you from the farmyard to the remains of the artillery platform of the former German cannon ‘Lange Max’. In a brand new contemporary museum, the visitor learns all about the largest cannon of its time that was designed to bombard Dunkirk.The museum focuses on the German occupation of Koekelare with a unique exhibition about the organisation behind the frontline and the production of army goods. It also featuers the little Bakehouse, which still contains traces of the German presence, and is now a multimedia room. Relax on a cosy terrace enjoying a ‘Kanonbier’ or homemade pancakes. | |
| Het Lange Max Museum is een echte aanrader voor degenen die geïnteresseerd zijn in de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Het museum ligt aan de Duitse zijde van het westelijk front. Het boerenerf is het middelpunt van deze culturele locatie. Een lange laan voert u van het boerenerf naar de overblijfselen van de geschutsbedding waar ooit het voormalig Duitse kanon “Lange Max” stond. In een gloednieuw eigentijds museum, komt de bezoeker alles te weten over wat het grootste kanon in die tijd was, speciaal ontworpen om Duinkerken te beschieten. Het museum concentreert zich met een unieke tentoonstelling over de organisatie achter de frontlinie en de productie van legergoederen, op de Duitse bezetting van Koekelare. Als onderdeel van het museum is er het bakhuisje, dat nog steeds sporen van de Duitse aanwezigheid heeft. Tegenwoordig is het ingericht als multimediazaal. Rust lekker uit op het gezellige terras en geniet van een “Kanonbiertje” of van de huisgemaakte pannenkoeken. |
