Both inside and outside there is an adapted toilet. The toilet outside scores best, although manoeuvring next to the toilet is a little more difficult because the sloping wall. The inside toilet is also spacious, but you only have 72 cm of manoeuvring space in front of the toilet. @en |

Zowel binnen als buiten is er een aangepast toilet. Het toilet buiten scoort het best, al is opstellen naast het toilet iets moeilijker doordat de muur schuin loopt. Het toilet binnen is ook ruim, maar voor het toilet heb je maar 72 cm opstelruimte. @nl |

Ferdinand Verbiest is in Pittem geboren in 1623. Ook vier eeuwen na zijn geboorte is hij nog steeds onze bekendste inwoner. In 1641 trad hij in de Jezuïetenorde en vertrok als missionaris naar China waar hij een groot deel van zijn leven doorbracht. Hij bouwde er een reputatie op als astronoom, ingenieur, taalkundige en geograaf. Hij vervulde in China een belangrijke rol aan het keizerlijk hof en werd er mandarijn. In 1688 overleed Ferdinand Verbiest in Beijng en kreeg er zelfs een staatsbegrafenis.Ter nagedachtenis van Ferdinand Verbiest (1623-1688) opende in 2010 het 'Bezoekerscentrum Ferdinand Verbiest'. In 2023 kreeg het bezoekerscentrum met de steun van Toerisme Vlaanderen een heropfrissing ter ere van zijn 400ste verjaardag. Ferdinand Verbiest was born in Pittem in 1623. Even four centuries after his birth, he remains our most famous resident. In 1641, he joined the Jesuit order and left as a missionary for China, where he spent a large part of his life. He built a reputation there as an astronomer, engineer, linguist, and geographer. He played an important role at the imperial court in China and became a mandarin. In 1688, Ferdinand Verbiest died in Beijing and was even given a state funeral.In memory of Ferdinand Verbiest (1623–1688), the 'Ferdinand Verbiest Visitor Centre' opened in 2010. In 2023, the visitor centre received a refresh with support from Visit Flanders in honour of his 400th birthday. The visitor centre is now known as the Ferdinand Verbiest Experience Center.Did you know that this Pittem native built the steam car and introduced the thermometer in China?
